HERE'S A EXPLANATION!

[tex]2x^2-4x+1+5x+x^2-1[/tex]

[tex]=2x^2+-4x+1+5x+x^2+-1[/tex]

Combine these like terms!

[tex]=2x^2+-4x+1+5x+x^2+-1[/tex]

[tex]=(2x^2+x^2)+(-4x+5x)+(1+-1)[/tex]
