The Fugitive Slave Act was hated by the North but applauded by the South. Why?

Slaves were hated by the North and applauded by the South for many, many reasons. The South needed help with the crops, the North did not. Also, many believed it was not fair in the North. The South thought that slaves were useful because they helped inside the houses, the field, and the farm.
